Qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix took place on Saturday afternoon, with Charles Leclerc securing pole position for Ferrari. The Monegasque driver set a time of 1:41.359, just ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. George Russell qualified fourth for Mercedes, while Carlos Sainz Jr. rounded out the top five for Ferrari.
The qualifying session was not without its drama. Williams driver Nyck de Vries failed to set a time within 107% of the fastest lap in Q1 and was therefore eliminated from the session. This was a disappointing result for the Dutch driver, who was making his Formula 1 debut this weekend.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is set to take place on Sunday, 30 April. Leclerc will be hoping to convert his pole position into a race win, while Verstappen and Perez will be looking to challenge him for victory.
