Mirra Andreeva Makes History as Youngest Grand Slam Semifinalist

17-Year-Old Russian Upsets No. 3 Seed in French Open

PARIS, France (AP) - Mirra Andreeva, an unseeded 17-year-old from Russia, shocked the tennis world on Friday by defeating No. 3 seed Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals of the French Open.

Andreeva, who is the youngest Grand Slam semifinalist since Martina Hingis in 1997, played with poise and determination throughout the match. She broke Sakkari's serve four times and saved all six break points she faced.

"I'm so happy," said Andreeva after the match. "I never dreamed that I would make it this far." Andreeva will face No. 5 seed Iga Swiatek in the semifinals on Saturday.
