Teenager stuns former world No. 2 in three-set thriller at Roland Garros

Russian sensation Andreeva claims biggest win of her career, reaches last four in Paris

In a thrilling three-set upset, Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva shocked former world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka to reach the semi-finals of the French Open on Wednesday. The 17-year-old Andreeva played with maturity beyond her years, overcoming a mid-match wobble to seal a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory and become the youngest Grand Slam semi-finalist since Martina Hingis in 1997.

Sabalenka, who was seeded seventh in Paris, looked out of sorts throughout the match and was visibly struggling with illness. The Belarusian star admitted after the match that she had been battling a stomach bug, which had left her feeling weak and drained.

"I had a difficult time out there physically today," said Sabalenka. "I was feeling very sick and it was hard to focus on the match. I tried my best, but it wasn't enough today."

Andreeva, meanwhile, was delighted with her victory and praised Sabalenka for her fighting spirit.

"I'm so happy to have won," said Andreeva. "Aryna is a great player and I knew it would be a tough match. I'm proud of myself for staying strong and fighting for every point."

Andreeva will now face Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals on Thursday. The Polish teenager is the top seed in Paris and is looking to win her second Grand Slam title of the year.
