UPS and Teamsters Reach Tentative Contract Agreement, Averting Potential Strike

Agreement Reached After Months of Negotiations

Union Members Vote to Approve Deal

United Parcel Service (UPS) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) have reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year contract, potentially averting a strike that could have started as early as August 1st.

The agreement was reached after months of negotiations and involves 340,000 UPS workers represented by the IBT. The tentative deal was approved by union members in a vote on Tuesday.

"This agreement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both UPS and the Teamsters," said UPS CEO Carol Tomé. "We are pleased that we were able to reach an agreement that is fair to both parties and that will help us continue to provide our customers with the best possible service."

The new contract includes several key provisions, including wage increases, improved healthcare benefits, and increased retirement contributions. The agreement also includes language that will help to protect workers from the impact of automation and other technological changes.

"This agreement is a victory for UPS workers," said IBT President Sean O'Brien. "It secures good wages, benefits, and working conditions for our members and their families."

The tentative agreement is now subject to ratification by the IBT's national membership. A ratification vote is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
