Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga Gifts Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 Victory Against Girona, Etches Name in Club Folklore

Gazzaniga's Clanger Hands PSG Second Preseason Win

Argentine's Catastrophic Error Hands French Giants Narrow Victory Over Catalan Opponents

Paris Saint-Germain secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Girona in a pre-season friendly match, courtesy of a comical blunder from Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. The Argentine custodian spilled a harmless cross into his own net, handing the French giants an undeserved victory in an otherwise uneventful encounter. With Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé all absent from the PSG squad, the match carried little excitement for the expectant crowd at the Parc des Princes. Despite fielding a weakened team, PSG dominated possession and created the better chances throughout the game. However, they were unable to break down a resilient Girona defense until Gazzaniga's calamitous error gifted them the lead. The goal came in the 68th minute when PSG winger Pablo Sarabia sent a low cross into the Girona penalty area. Gazzaniga inexplicably allowed the ball to slip through his grasp and into the net, handing PSG an unlikely advantage. Girona pushed for an equalizer in the remaining minutes but failed to seriously trouble the PSG defense. The victory was PSG's second in pre-season, following their 2-1 win over Quevilly-Rouen last week. They will now face Kawasaki Frontale in their final pre-season friendly on July 23 before beginning their Ligue 1 campaign against Clermont Foot on August 6.
